Google Chrome binaries download

Decided to post as I was unable to find a post or page with the proper information. If this has been answered elsewhere I'd much appreciate a link to that forum post or webpage.

We're currently in need of old chrome versions that still support Adobe Flash to provide management for servers and services. As such we're trying to do due diligence to prevent a possible compromise— we know it's best to to use the latest versions of software but in this case it is unavoidable.

I see PortableApps makes all previous downloads available here : https://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Google%20Chrome%20Po...

These are online installers so you are downloading the PAF installer, which in turn downloads the actual chrome binaries from elsewhere. This is where I'm running into issues. Are these binaries being downloaded from PortableApps servers, Google servers, or elsewhere? I'd like to find out from one of the developers before I have to break out packet sniffers to find out.

WinSCPPortable 5.17.10 crashes

Hi,

I've been using this app for a few years and generally overwrite the folder when a new version comes out.
Yesterday, I updated WinSCPPortable 5.17.7 -> 5.17.10 but it wasn't until today that I used it.

It starts to open, and displays the splash screen. I then see a quick flash of the main window before it exits.
I tried downloading the file again and overwriting the folder but no luck.
When I deleted the `data/settings` folder and tried again, I got a message: "Invalid characters in path"
If I overwrite the "bad" WinSCPPortable folder with version 5.17.7, it works.
Overwriting the folder again with version 5.17.10, shows a "Invalid characters in path" popup, or crashes out if my setting files exists.

So 5.17.10 crashes
- on a clean extract with "Invalid characters in path"
- without warning with previous (working) settings
But the software works when I overwrite it with WinSCPPortable 5.17.7 files.

Is there anything else I can do to debug? Are you able to replicate the issue?

Having Chrome 64 and Chrome Not Merged at Task Bar

I have both Google Chrome and Google Chrome 64 installed.
Having different 64 Bit version allows running them in parallel for 2 different profiles which is important feature.

An interesting thing is that on one computer the 2 icons are not merged on the Windows 10 Taskbar:

Yet on other computer with Windows they are merged (Namely like having any other 2 copies of the same program).
It is not a Windows configuration as any other application is merged on my task bar (For instance if I launch Explorer++ twice).

I wonder, is it some kind of a configuration of the portable launcher?

*this is ok, not problem*

but now chrome send popup "update" with red writing top right,

and I don't find a working method to make it disappear. all methods tested only work for normal chrome, not portable chrome

Google Chrome Portable as DEFAULT browser - issue / problem

Hello

I have an issue with making Google Chrome Portable (64 Test) default internet browser in Windows 7 x64.
1. Launch Google Chrome Portable, click 'Make it default browser'.
2. Google Chrome Portable is registered as Windows default internet browser. However, every time I launch any file that is associated with it (like .html or .pdf file), Google Chrome Portable launches with resetted settings like after a clean-up.
3. I found out that it is because the program gets registered to a path of "GoogleChromePortable64\App\Chrome-bin\chrome.exe" instead of "GoogleChromePortable64\GoogleChromePortable.exe". The second EXE is the correct one, however, the program, for some reason, gets registered with the first path what causes the issue.
4. The problem has already been discussed - https://portableapps.com/node/56664 - there is a registry-side solution for it, however, I would like to avoid messing with registry myself if it could be solved via PortableApps platform itself.

Is there any plan to fix the issue?

[Fixed] Error updating Google Chrome 64-bit to 90.0.4430.93

The message says "The downloaded copy of Google Chrome (64-bit Test) is not valid & can not be installed. This could be due to an incomplete download or other network issue. Please try running the updater again when complete."

This morning, the update went OK on my work computer.
Tonight, it doesn't work on my home computer.

[solved] uGet Portable 2.2.1 - can't select italian language

Hi,
I have installed uGet Portable:
1. Then I haver browsed inside setting for change language: nothing
2. I have edited the file 'uGetPortableSetting.ini' and I have added a new line after 'LastDirectory=\PortableApps\uGetPortable'
the content of this new line is:
Language=it
3. new language (italian) is NOT set.

Note that all language files are inside folder: 'C:\PortableApps\uGetPortable\App\uGet\share\locale'

Any idea?

Chrome Caused Security Alert by Employer, Cuz Writing to C: Drive. How to fix?

I'm running Chrome Portable off external flash drive D:

It got my work computer tagged as "compromised", because it's writing to the C: drive

C:\Users\myUserName\AppData\Local\Temp\GoogleChromePortable

How to change this location?

Putting the disk-cache-dir flag into my launcher doesn't fix this behavior:

D:\Apps\GoogleChromePortable64\GoogleChromePortable.exe --disk-cache-dir=D:\Apps\GoogleChromePortable64\Cache

Configure Chrome profile folder path

Tried to use GoogleChromePortable.ini to tell Chrome to place the profile folder somewhere else on the hard drive, to no avail. It appears that, no matter what, the path needs to be an extension of PortableApps\GoogleChromePortable\," whereas I want the profile folder to be outside of that path. Can this be done?

Google Chrome vers 91.0.4472.101 -- SAVE AS fails.

I just did a full update to Portable Chrome. As soon as I opened it I noticed a distinct slowness but that is not my complaint. What is my complaint is that when I try to save a page either by Ctrl+S or by right-clicking Save as... it totally FAILS to popup a save dialog. It also does not matter what the page is, this is a universal failure.

I am using 64-bit Win 8.1 with 6GB of RAM and I shut down all other major applications to ensure no conflicts. It was working fine before I upgraded and then it simply stopped working. My old version was 75.0.3770.90 (it has been awhile since I updated last).

How can I downgrade the version and still retain my profile/history/passwords/etc ?

Portability to maintain a half dozen "cloud" logins in the browser?

I am moving a lot between home and the office and I would love to leverage Portable Chrome to be logged in to my work e-mail, calendar, chat service, and a few other sites with my work account, and then just move that USB stick to a different computer, open up my Portable Chrome, and still be logged in and have it automatically go to the exact pages I was at when I left the office.

I tried it today, moved between my work PC and went over to another PC, put in the Portable Apps USB stick, ran the Portable Apps app, opened my Portable Chrome, and _nothing_ was logged in. It didn't even remember what pages I had open and I needed to go into History to open them.
Even though I had set my Portable Chrome preferences to resume open pages on launch, it even forgot that.

So, what am I doing wrong? because I really thought that was the big feature of portable apps? To be able to take it with you, and use it wherever, and have it operate the same way, no matter what host computer it's on- because the data the app needs is stored with the app, on the USB stick, and not on the PC. Passwords, settings, history, etc.

And I apologize if this is a newbie question asked again and again.
But I consider myself fairly computer savvy and it's either not working as I thought Portable Apps were supposed to, or the Portable Apps app is missing some basic setup help to ensure that it does work like Portable Apps are supposed to.

Been using Chome Portable but lost Settings tabs "Continue where you left off" twice now

Been using Chome Portable for a few months no problems but one, lost Tabs on open when settings "Continue where you left off"
twice now. Restore will bring them back temporarily but keeps opening with no tabs. Tried Save taps open closed, open, good, change back to "Continue where you left off" but still not remembering them.
any ideas?

Sylpheed and Passwords?

Hi,
How do you get Sylpheed to save the password for its accounts?
I do not see an option to save password.
As long as I have Sylpheed open it saves passwords but as soon as I close it, I have to re-enter all the passwords for each account.

Opera Portable and user-data-dir

Hi,

Found that Opera Portable is vulnerable to profile reset and corruption due to its implementation of profile directory using [DirectoriesMove] in the launcher.

Have tested that Opera Portable launcher works well with below argument in the OperaPortable.ini (remember to comment out [DirectoriesMove])
CommandLineArguments=--user-data-dir=%PAL:DataDir%\profile

This should improve Opera Portable startup speed and reduce profile corruption.

Hope to see this in the next update.
