K-Meleon Browser Forum Mentions

I've recently been reading a learning a little about the K-Meleon web browser.

While educating myself about it, I came across some mentions of the PortableApps.com version on the official K-Meleon forums: http://kmeleonbrowser.org/forum/read.php?19,148500,page=17

Regarding the version available on PortableApps.com, one frequent poster (maybe a K-Meleon contributor, I don't know), wrote: "Nothing that isn't here [on kmeleonbrowser.org] or in the roytam's site is the version it pretends."

Given the history of PortableApps.com being very upstanding (and outstanding!), I'm guessing this is not true.

It's possible that someone here may find it worthy to communicate on that forum to ensure that false information is not being spread.

sPortable download-bug ((

Hi everybody!

Its too pity to get this message after downloading sPortable:
"ProtableApps.com Installers that download files must end with "_online.paf.exe".
This is to ensure that users always know that an installer downloads files before it is run.
Please rename the file to end in _online.paf.exe before running."

What is the problem? Everything used to work fine before (previous versions)

[Bug] GoogleChromePortable.exe stays resident after Chrome is closed, preventing updates

The title says it all. I think it happens every time I run Chrome Portable.

Below is GoogleChromePortable.ini:

; This file contains the Google Chrome Portable default settings.
; You can copy this file to GoogleChromePortable\ and change settings in it.
; Any settings missing from that file will have their defaults (listed here)
; used.

[GoogleChromePortable]
Google ChromeDirectory=App\Chrome-bin
; The main app directory
ProfileDirectory=Data\profile
; The profile directory
SettingsDirectory=Data\settings
; The directory containing settings. Currently only used for the master
; password hash, if enabled.
AdditionalParameters=--renderer-process-limit=1
; More parameters to pass to chrome.exe, use to enable experimental features.
Google ChromeExecutable=chrome.exe
; The EXE name
WaitForProgram=true
; Waits for the program to run. Don't set to false as it is required for
; cleanup to avoid leaving files on the local system, and to avoid breaking
; local Google Update and Chrome.
DisableSplashScreen=true
; Disables the splash screen, if it has been compiled into the launcher.
RunLocally=false
; Forces the profile to be copied to the local computer, as if the portable app
; is run from a CD. The profile will be copied back to the portable device
; afterwards (minus cache files).
CacheInTemp=true
; If this is true, the disk Cache will be set to use the local computer, and
; will be deleted on exit, even if RunLocally is false.

; Note that using either of the previous two options can represent a risk of
; other users of the same computer discovering your internet surfing
; activities on that computer. Although Google Chrome Portable deletes the
; locally saved data when it is finished, it is possible this may not happen
; (Google Chrome Portable or the computer crashes) and even if it does, some
; of the data may be recoverable using disk recovery tools. For this reason
; it is recommended you use Incognito mode for any browsing you don't want
; others to know about. HTTPS browsing is never written to cache and thus not
; an issue.

ImportJava=false
; If true, it will import the Java plugin from a copy of Java Portable if you
; have it installed, and if you do not already have a Java plugin installed in
; Google Chrome Portable. Note that Java Portable is not yet supported; the
; plugin will attempt to use a locally installed Java.
UsePAMLanguage=true
; Forces Google Chrome to use the language selected by PortableApps.com Menu
; when it is launched from PAM. The language is only used if Google Chrome
; supports it, otherwise it falls back to the user-selected language (or
; the local system language). If "true", you won't be able to change the
; language within Google Chrome when launched from PAM since PAM will override
; it.

PortablePasswords=false
; Stores your saved passwords using a master password you select on startup,
; working around Chrome's normal mechanism of tying saved passwords to a local
; user account. This setting causes a prompt for the master password on
; every startup so it's opt-in.
EncryptPortablePasswords=true
; Uses a master password to re-encrypt passwords. If this is false, Portable
; Passwords will be insecurely stored as plaintext, but you will not need to
; use a master password. You may find setting this to false useful if you
; already use an encryption solution such as TrueCrypt to store
; GooglechromePortable.
;
; If you want to change any of the following:
; - The Portable Passwords algorithms, salts, or implementation in such a way
; that would break your existing Portable Passwords (through an upgrade of
; Google Chrome Portable that changes these).
; - Your master password, or lack of a master password.
;
; You can keep your Portable Passwords by first ensuring that your passwords
; have been successfully imported into your Google Chrome profile with the
; local user account. To do this, simply start GCP before upgrading it or
; changing your password or Portable Passwords settings. Then, delete the
; master password hash in Data\settings and the Portable Passwords files in
; your profile (by default, there is only one in Data\profile\Default. A
; power user with more than one profile will have one for each profile).
; Next, perform the upgrade, or change the settings, if you wanted to. Now
; run GCP and enter a new master password (or the same one, but it CAN be new
; if you want). Once you close Google Chrome the new Portable Passwords
; database will be constructed using your saved passwords from Google Chrome.

The recent update to portable Opera and it decided to FK up my profile. FU Chedder Gobblin!
Now the browser profile has been reset to factory settings after I closed out.

I got a POP-UP message yesterday that a duplicate profile was detected when I tried to Run Opera.

Some how my profile data got moved to R:\PortableApps\PortableApps\OperaPortable\App\DefaultData\profile
So copied the data over to where it should be.
My mistake was not duplicating both folders.
So I moved the data.
I was able to close and reopen Opera about 3 times before it decided to puke cheddar macaroni all over my data.

FU cheddar gobblin!

opera & Unity not working

I have Opera on my usb and on my desktop, and I was going to try a game called Pups and Prejudice, and the landing page for that website says it can't work in Chrome and to try other browsers, which it lists Opera and Firefox as alternatives.
Any idea is this is a Unity problem or if the P&P game coding is the problem?

Does Google Chrome Portable only allow manual updates? (error code 1: 0x80004005)

I have been using Mozilla Firefox Portable and Google Chrome Portable for at least several months now.

The Mozilla Firefox Portable always updates automatically. It lets me know when it is about to install an update, when it is installing the update, and then it finishes updating when I restart the browser. I don't have to do anything. I don't have to download the latest version from the portableapps.com website. It's a very convenient process.

But Google Chrome Portable has been a headache. The only way that I can update from the version that I have to whatever the newest version is, is if I go to portableapps.com and download the latest version. I was wondering why that is. Isn't there a way for Google Chrome Portable to update automatically, like Mozilla Firefox Portable does, without having to download the latest version from the portableapps.com website?

Until recently, there was always a portable version of waterfox on the waterfox download page. It was real paf, with portable apps logo etc.
Since certainly week or longer, this version seems not to exist any more, the download button gives 404.
Is there anything known about waterfox portable here?

chrome not showing previous profiles, tabs and windows anymore after crash

$

I'm using 14 different profiles in Chrome Portable, each profile has a few windows and several tabs.
Setting "continu were you left off" is on .
I had to hard reset my pc and now when I start Chrome portable, only my main default profile starts without the tabs and windows that should be there. Worse when I try to open another profile from the "other people" list none are there anymore.
"last sessions" and "last tabs" files are still available, all but one "current session" and "current tabs" are still there as well, those two files are missing in the "Default" profile folder but I renamed "last sessions" and "last tabs" to "current session" and "current tabs" in that folder as am I supposed to do in such a case. All profile folders are still available too including their full directory structure, so Default, Profile1, Profile2, etc.
All that data seems completely ignored now.
How can I get all profiles to load again and get my history, tabs and windows back per profile?
Can I manually force chrome to load the profiles again somehow which are still there after all?

Thanks very much in advance for any possible help. I really need this fixed asap. Much appreciated.

Any computer I put the thumb-drive into and launch Chrome always saves the Username and Password to the computer. I did follow the instructions on how to change the ini file to save passwords in Chrome but it does not work. Any ideas?

Changing the Chrome Portable taskbar icon

$

Is there no way to change the Chrome Portable taskbar icon?

I've tried replacing all the appicon image files (.ico and .png) in App > AppInfo with new ones, and that didn't work. I tried doing that and then loading the GoogleChromePortable.nsi in NSIS Portable, but that didn't do anything. Maybe I didn't do something right. I don't know how to use NSIS Portable.

I've also used ResourceHacker to replace the icons in the GoogleChromePortable.exe and even the chrome.exe that is in a different folder. And that didn't work.

And during the whole time, I keep using ie4uinit.exe -show to clear my icon cache.

But nothing works!

I really hate this taskbar icon. It's so ugly and small. And I don't want to pin a shortcut to my taskbar because then there will be two Google Chrome icons on my taskbar after I click on the pinned shortcut one, and I don't want that.

Surely there has to be a way. I don't mind repeating the steps each time that I install a new version. I don't care if it is a lot of steps or work. I just want to know HOW!!!

Kitty - Assertion Failure

I am plagued by getting 'assertion failures' (image posted at https://itproxy.uk/misc/assertfail.jpg) when trying to use Kitty. It can happen constantly, or occasionally, when I'm trying to visit websites using Firefox Portable (currently v77.0.1) on a W10 PC, via Kitty Portable (v0.74.0.2) through freeSSHd (v1.3.1) installed on a W10 PC.
I'va absolutely no idea what the error message I get means. Where's the issue? With my browser? My client ie Kitty? The SSH server? The website I'm trying to visit? Or the PCs involved?
Any help with where/how to start investigating this issue would be appreciated.

How to install several separate versions of Chrome Portable - NOT "update"

$

I forgot what it actually does and whether there is some way to control that latter in the install process but the first prompt upon running say GoogleChromePortable_68.0.3440.84_online.paf.exe is downright scary. I don't want to run any risk of the thing even thinking about "updating" anything - ever. I just want it to park all it's bits into whatever folder I give it - no less and no more.

Is there a command line switch or something?

Don't even know if it's going to work at all (I seem to remember that online "installers" from https://sourceforge.net/projects/portableapps/files/Google%20Chrome%20Po... don't respect declared version at all but dump whatever is the latest on you) and I definitely don't want any risk of it touching my 58.

It probably just snoops and sees GoogleChromePortable.exe running but I have to make absolutely shure that it doesn't "decide that it knows better" if I shut it down the guardian. Especially if it's going to dump 85 on me.

Chrome Portable and Portable Passwords Issue

Hello!

I managed to set up portable passwords (GoogleChromePortable.ini with proper settings near the Launcher) but I have an issue with it. Before I made this settings there were 4 passwords stored in Chrome. After adding the portable passwords I try to add another, 5th password. It stores fine until I run Chrome under another OS. After Chrome starts I go to the settings and see this message

Some settings were reset
https://i.imgur.com/qez6mME.png

After I click OK button and go to the passwords settings I see there only first 4 passwords, but 5th is forgotten!

How should I fix this?

UPD. I tested this with GCP v. 68 and seems like settings reset doesn't cause the passwords reset there. But it does for GCP v. 85 (latest).

I made some further testing and in the latest version of GCP the portable passwords are stored in a weird way - they are not listed in Google Chrome passwords settings (I think there's something in the GCP's changelog about this). It could be empty but passwords are stored. Yet all passwords are forgotten after OS switch.

Where are Flash Games Saved in each Browser

I recently went the portable route with PortableApps because I was tried of having to save my data and transport it from computer to computer. I know I can log into things but sometimes I'm not on my machine and I don't want to log into things. So I now have ChromePortable, FireFoxPortable and OperaGXPortable.

I've recently been playing many Flash games and I want to back them up, just in case the USB with the PortableApps fails. I think I know where OperaGXPortable saves are--please someone correct me if I'm wrong--C:\LTsFiles\PortableAppsDotCom\PortableApps\OperaGXPortable\Data\profile\data\Pepper Data\Shockwave Flash And the folders are in there.

I can't seem find my .sol files in either ChromePortable or FireFoxPortable. I've tried searching but with Windows 10 after some hours later I would get some hits but none are the folders that contain the .sol file. I would appreciate any help you can give me.

I know Flash is going to be gone after 2020 but I want to enjoy the games while they're still available. Thank you in advance.

GoogleChromePortable 86 constantly wipes cookies

I've been using GoogleChromePortable (multiple instances) for years now with no issues, updating regularly. The latest update to 86 is causing all of my instances to wipe all cookies pretty regularly (multiple times a day often) after restart. A bit frustrating that I lost all cookies on all instances!

Any thoughts on what is causing this?

I need help with setting up a second portable browser.

I was using both Firefox Portable and Chrome Portable at the same time. But I bought a new laptop, and when I moved my USB stick to the new laptop, I found that Chrome Portable did not keep a lot of my settings such as home page, new tab, passwords, and extensions. I read on the forums that the workaround for that is to sign in on Google and Sync. But I don't want to do that. And I also read that any browser that uses webkit like Google Chrome does will have the same problem.

So I searched on Portable Apps for a different portable browser. I was looking for something that behaved like Firefox Portable does - lets me keep my passwords, extensions, and other settings between PCs. But of all the different browsers that I looked at, there didn't seem to be any that suited my purposes. I mean, there were some that used webkit or chromium like Chrome Portable does, so I avoid thoses. And then the rest didn't seem to let me install my favorite extensions such as Saka Keys, ViolentMonkey, uBlock Origin, etc.

Then I saw a Firefox Portable Developer Edition, and that interested me. I'm extremely used to Firefox and I love their browser. And I liked how the Developer Edition had a different looking taskbar icon, which makes it easier to tell apart. But then I got messages that I can't run multiple instances of Firefox at the same time. I even created profiles and tried stuff like this, but it still wouldn't let me run both at the same time:

"F:\009__Other\Firefox Portable\FirefoxPortable.exe" -P "Default" (I tried with -no-remote too)
"F:\009__Other\Firefox Portable Developer\FirefoxPortable.exe" -P "Developer" -no-remote

Any suggestions on how to get both to run same time, or another portable browser that I can use as my second browser that keeps passwords, extensions, and other settings and lets me install extensions that I would normally use in Firefox or Chrome?
